Job Opening: Director of Religious Education
(Summer, 2025)
Saint Elizabeth Parish in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania is seeking a full-time professional to direct the parish's vibrant Religious Education program. The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt member of the parish staff. The position includes some responsibilities on weeknights and periodic weekends. The successful candidate must be an active practicing Catholic, in good standing with the Church.
The DRE reports directly to the pastor. As a member of the parish staff, the DRE works with other staff members to foster and maintain a working environment where worship, prayer, hospitality, and learning are the primary motivators.
The DRE is a professional catechetical leader who assists adults, adolescents, and children of the parish in their faith formation.
The main responsibilities of the DRE include, but are not limited to:
- Administer the elementary parish religious education program for grades K-7 (PREP and Family Catechesis models)
- Coordinate sacramental preparation programs for all parish youth
- Manage the recruiting, training, and ongoing formation of catechists
- Prepare liturgies for parish school and PREP children
- Oversee Liturgy of the Word for Children (coordinate teams for Sunday Liturgy)
- Provide various adult faith formation opportunities for the parish community throughout the year
- Participate in and represent Saint Elizabeth Parish at regional and archdiocesan D/CRE meetings, catechetical workshops and conferences
The successful candidate will be a practicing Catholic in good standing who is committed to the teachings of the Catholic faith and will have an understanding of and a commitment to the mission of the parish. A Bachelor's degree in Theology or Religious Education and a minimum of three years of Catholic parish or school religious education experience is required as well as strong technological and communication skills.
