Program Aide- Catholic Housing and Community Services

Position: Program Aide

 

Catholic Housing and Community Services is currently seeking a Program Aide for its Senior Community Center located in the Port Richmond neighborhood. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with planning, implementation, and documentation of educational, social, recreational, health-promoting, and inspirational programming for members of an active CHCS senior community center. The Program Aide position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating activities for consumers in the senior center and for senior center members participating virtually/online.
  • Lead selected activities when requested.
  • Assist with the recording and monitoring of activity attendance records.
  • Assist with the production and distribution of the monthly program calendar, newsletter, and other mailings/social media to promote the center.
  • Assist with organizing and storing program supplies.
  • Help set-up and manage distribution of center food resources (e.g., congregate meals, breakfast/coffee/snacks, food pantry, commodity food boxes)
  • Update Center Manager on progress and/or problems as they arise.
  • Direct consumers to the center's Social Service Coordinator to meet the unique needs of center participants.
  • Assist with administrative duties, such as preparing or filing reports, as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information. Establish rapport with and respect for all participants and other stakeholders, in accord with confidentiality policy, professional standards and other guidance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Education

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree, or equivalent.

 

Experience/Abilities

  • Must have at least two (2) years of additional education or experience in a related field or position (e.g., gerontology, human/social services, event planning)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to function as part of a team.
  • Able to work effectively with older adults in a community setting respectful of their dignity and right to self-determination.
  • Adept at utilizing Microsoft Office and completing data entry, and able to adjust to new software as needed.
  • Familiarity with social media preferred.
  • Willingness to follow directions consistently.

 

Physical Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices)

  • Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. up to 50 pounds.

 

Language

  • Written and oral fluency in Polish as well as English is preferred.
