Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, develop, test, modify, document, support, network, telephony, related systems and software, applying your independent judgment and knowledge of programming techniques and computer systems, and as may be directed by the Chief Information Officer. In addition, you will be called upon to lead, guide and/or assist in specific tasks/projects as directed

Delegation of Authority

As the Network Support Specialist, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be knowledgeable of, and implement mission and philosophy of the organization within the scope of responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and application of the principles, operation and capabilities of current high-speed communications network hardware, software and protocols.
  • Knowledge and application of the principles of communications system operation, maintenance, monitoring and control.
  • Maintain, monitor and support all network servers, backup and monitoring services.
  • Monitor and insure network security models and model compliance both within systems and through policies and procedures.
  • Must apply experience with LAN/WAN and Telephony Technologies Routers, Hubs, Firewall Networking testing and security equipment.  
  • Knowledge and application of computer and network operating system methods and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of programming languages, hardware and protocols specific to the assignment.
  • Skill in effectively communicating technical subjects both orally and in writing.
  • Must have and apply a working knowledge and experience in a networking capacity with following products Windows Server Enterprise (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2022), Active Directory Service, DNS, Windows desktop operating systems (Win 7, Win 10, Win 11).
  • Assist in the integrations of voice and data operations.
  • Provide or arrange maintenance for computer, network, or telephony -related hardware and software as needed or directed by the OIT Management.
  • Provide or arrange setup and installation of new network and telephony products or software and remove unneeded equipment.
  • Communicate with OIT staff on all activities and developments.
  • Stay abreast of current technology and provide product and system recommendations to OIT staff as well as give direction for trainings.
  • Initiates escalation as appropriate to ensure management awareness of problems that are severe in nature or that are exceeding documented targets.
  • Provide telephone and desk-side support for computer, network, and/or telephony-related issues assist in User Support Services.
  • Must have and apply a working knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office (2013, 2016, 2019), Windows (7, 10, 11) troubleshooting and installation.  The ideal candidate has experience with other common desktop applications and technical applications such as Linux distributions.
  • Must apply systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, OIT staff and/or Management to determine optimal hardware, software and system functional specifications and perform necessary modifications. 
  • Must perform basic networking functions such as user and printer management and implement end user security parameters.
  • Required to maintain records of daily activities, issue problems, remedial actions, installations and outcomes.
  • Ensure all problems are logged promptly and correctly.
  • Provide or arrange set-up and installation of new products or software and remove unneeded equipment.
  • Assist in creation, updating and ongoing monitoring of an accurate inventory and User Support solutions database.
  • Provide user support as needed, which may include after-hours support of the network infrastructure.
  • Perform any other task or responsibility as directed by Office of Information Technology Management.

 

Staff Development

  • Create, Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as directed.
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.

Safety and Sanitation

  • Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when operating office equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions to your supervisor immediately.

Equipment and Supply Function

  • Ensure administrative supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary.
  • Assure that work/assignment areas are neat, clean and office equipment is covered before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.

Resident Rights

  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.
  • Assure that resident’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights including the right to file complaints are followed.

Miscellaneous

  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting staffing needs and emergencies.
  • Reports to work on time.
  • Demonstrates high standards of attendance.

Education

  • Minimum High School graduate with up to eighteen (18) months of specialized training in advanced principles or techniques in computer technology and networking. Certifications in at least one or more of the following (Network+, A+, Security+, Linux+, any Cisco and Microsoft Server Technologies)

Experience

  • Minimum three years experience with computers and high comfort level in using computer, network, and security technologies.

Working Conditions

  • Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Works beyond normal working hours on weekends and holidays; as necessary.
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Communicates with other department supervisors.
  • Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support personnel, etc., to assure that the residents’ needs are continually met.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the positions.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
  • Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to operate office, business and accounting machines
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds, push, pull and move residents, equipment, supplies, etc., up to 200 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
