Primary Purpose of Job
The primary purpose of the position is to oversee all aspects of meal service at a CHCS senior community center, serving 100 or more older adults each day.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare menus and meals in compliance with Philadelphia Corporation for Aging menu guidelines and related nutritional guidance, and with sensitivity to the cultural norms and preferences of center consumers.
- Plan and order all food and food service supplies, managing inventory in accordance with budgetary limitations and safe food handling practices.
- Manage and maintain kitchen, adhering to all standards and compliance guidelines established by the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Department of Health, and other regulatory bodies/organizational stakeholders.
- Prepare and distribute appetizing and nutritious breakfasts and lunches to daily to approximately 100 or more seniors.
- Supervisor kitchen staff on day to day operations.

- Responsible to be knowledgeable and to implement the Mission and Philosophy of the Archdiocese and organization within the scope of responsibility.
- Adheres to established policies and procedures for Catholic Human Services at all times.
- Treat all consumers/clients/participants, staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners with dignity and respect.
- Demonstrate high standards of attendance and timeliness.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and events, as needed/assigned, to facilitate communication, collaboration, and overall quality of service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Education
- Minimum of a High School Diploma, or equivalent.
Experience/Abilities
- Experience in food service. ServSafe certified, or able to meet certification requirements within a specified timeframe (e.g., 6 months of hire).
- Good written and oral communication skills, and organizational abilities,
- Is flexible, hospitable, able to work independently and to follow directions consistently.
Physical Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices)
- Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work respectfully and effectively with participants, personnel, other agencies, community partners, vendors, and center visitors under a variety of circumstances and conditions.
- Must be able to work effectively with older adults in a community setting respectful of their dignity and right to self-determination.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Language
- For some Centers, written and oral fluency in languages in addition to English may be required or preferred.
