Major Responsibilities

The Primary responsibility of the Life Skills Counselor is to ensure each shift is running smoothly, assist residents in performing their life skills and required chores.

Ensure all residents receive proper supports and certify services are delivered in accordance with state regulations and DBHID requirements.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents in developing life skills (Cleaning, cooking, hygiene, etc.)
  • Monitor and ensure residents are cooperating in daily life skills and required chores
  • Communicate issues to Life Skills Coordinator and Program Supervisor as they occur
  • Oversee and maintain safety of the residents and facility
  • Oversee laundry services
  • Assist with preparation for Mercy Caf day program
  • Dispense medication, log in new arrivals, discontinued-meds documented in log
  • Ensure medication room is in an orderly fashion, file all paperwork in designated binders
  • Check MAR against medication labels for accuracy, report discrepancy to Life Skills Coordinator and report in log book
  • Ensure all appropriate forms are in med room and staff office, report needs to Administrative Assistant
  • Assist in training of new employees during shadowing period
  • Give and receive daily reports: know emergency protocol
  • Execute fire drills when scheduled and assigned
  • Assist in answering the phone and door
  • Provides snow removal (Path)
  • Assist in any assignment deemed necessary by Life Skills Coordinator, Program Supervisor or Director
  • Meet weekly with Life Skills Coordinator
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, weekly supervision, training and meetings required by both CSS and funders
  • Other task and duties as assigned

 

REPRESENTATIVE KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AILITIES

  • Ability to live, implement and communicate the values and mission of the agency
  • Requires minimum High School Diploma/GED
  • Comfort in working with women who have a history of homelessness and /or mental illness(including drug and alcohol addiction)
  • Shows hospitality to residents and is flexible with shift
  • Current Safe Food handling certification and certified in First Aid/CPR
  • Medication certification
  • Able to lift between 25-50lbs.
