Job purpose 

This is a senior level management position that is responsible for the oversight of all operations and strategic direction of Homeless Services for Catholic Charities of Philadelphia. This includes homeless residential programs such as St. John’s Hospice, Mercy Hospice, Women of Hope-Vine, Women of Hope-Lombard, The Good Shepherd and McAuley House programs and Visitation Homes.  The Director is responsible for the fiscal, contractual and regulatory oversight and compliance of all programs as well as the development of strategic initiatives to further address issues of homelessness and poverty in the five-county region.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the coordination and integration of the organization’s mission and philosophy throughout all Catholic Charities Homeless programs. 
  • Responsible for the overall operations of all homeless programs and initiatives including 7 residential programs.
  • Provide vision and leadership principles to guide strategic thinking and action related to homeless programs and as a part of Catholic Charities senior leadership.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives related to homelessness and poverty.
  • Collaborate with other senior leadership across program areas to create innovative solutions to critical community needs.
  • Develop and provide oversight of the annual budgets all Catholic Charities homeless programs.
  • Assures fiscal, contractual, and regulatory compliance of all programs
  • Facilitate communication and reporting to the appropriate Board Service Committee and the Board of Catholic Charities.
  • Maintains regular communication and collaboration with various governmental funders, including attending executive level provider meetings
  • Seeks and pursues additional governmental and private funding opportunities.
  • Manages and coordinates all Human Resource functions within the entity through collaboration with Human Resource personnel, managers and employees.


Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Social Work/Services or related field from an accredited University required as well as a minimum of ten (10) years social service administration preferred.

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia and the Church of Philadelphia.
  • Experience within Catholic organizations or faith-based nonprofits is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in grant writing, program development, strategic planning, and establishing and building collaborative partnerships.
