Job Description:
St. Katharine of Siena Catholic Grammar School is seeking a long term substitute for 5th and 6th grade Math, Science and Stem. The position will begin in mid-November and is expected to go through mid-January. A full list of responsibilities is listed below. 5th Grade Homeroom
- Works closely with the 5th grade team to collaborate on curriculum pacing, lesson planning, home and school communication, end-of-trimester report cards, and ensuring student success throughout the year.
- Communicates weekly with parents, informing them of school and classroom updates.
- Maintains a warm and welcoming classroom environment for students to start and end their day.
- Assumes responsibility for students during all school activities (academic and nonacademic), to include walking students to and from daily specials, lunch, recess, monthly mass, field trips, and school assemblies.
5th Grade Math
- Teaches a 5th Grade At-Level and a 5th Grade Honors math class five days per week.
- Maintains an upbeat classroom environment, where the focus is on helping students achieve a "growth mindset" and forming a positive relationship with Math.
- Closely follows Archdiocesan and Common Core 5th Grade Math Standards for the At-Level Class to plan and execute engaging lessons.
- Closely follows Archdiocesan and Common Core 5th and 6th Grade Math Standards for the Honors Class to plan and execute engaging lessons.
- Uses both formative and summative student assessments to inform daily instruction and pacing.
- Provides appropriate amount of homework each night to allow students to practice skills learned in class.
- Is readily available and willing to assist students in need of additional support or clarification of concepts.
5th Grade Science
- Teaches two sessions of 5th Grade Science four times per week.
- Closely follows Archdiocesan and NGSS standards to plan and execute engaging lessons, to include some hands-on labs.
- Works collaboratively with the 6-8 grade Science Teacher to share ideas, maintain appropriate pacing, and collaborate on middle-school Science projects during the year.
- Uses both formative and summative student assessments to inform daily instruction and pacing.
- Assigns an appropriate amount of homework, as needed, to ensure students are developing a solid understanding of science concepts.
6th Grade STEM
- Teaches two sessions of 6th Grade STEM per week.
- Closely follows NGSS and ISTE standards to develop engaging lessons that emphasize hands-on engineering, student collaboration and creativity, growth mindset, and the importance of digital citizenship.
- Collaborates with 6th grade team to plan STEM-based projects that coincide with ELA, Science, and Social Studies curriculum.
