Job Title: Assistant Director, Family & Community Services    

Reports To: Director, Family & Community Services

Job Purpose

The Assistant Director of Community and Family Services is an upper level management position. Work is dynamic with a frequent need to anticipate and respond to fluctuations in funding changes and be willing to adapt and shift objectives and priorities while serving the needs of the most vulnerable and keeping aligned with the mission of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia. Actions and soundness of judgement contribute to the public perception of the value and integrity of the work of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction, oversight and management of the Community, Family and School Service programs including new initiatives for Catholic Charities throughout the auspices of the Catholic Church of Philadelphia.
  • Maintains consistent communications with program managers ensuring clarity in flow of communication. Conducts regular staff meetings for the purpose of communicating priorities, objectives, resolving problems and program development.
  • Helps to integrate strategic plan initiatives for growth of programming addressing family and community needs in all areas within the Catholic Church of Philadelphia.
  • Assists in developing and managing annual budgets assuring fiscal, contractual and regulatory compliance of all programs.
  • Maintains regular communication and collaboration with various governmental funders, including representing the agency at provider meetings ensuring that all programs meet required contractual objectives.
  • Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with area governmental offices, local community leaders, Parish and religious communities including HUBs and Catholic schools.
  • Assumes an active role in proposal writing, and development of third party and governmental funding.
  • Prepares quarterly reports and participates in Board Service Committee meetings

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

Master’s degree in social work or related field with minimum of five years’ progressive management experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia and Catholic Church teaching.
  • Experience within Catholic organizations or faith-based nonprofits.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to meet management demands at several site locations.
  • Proficient in grant writing, program development, strategic planning and establishing and building collaborative partnerships.
