Summary:
This position is an opportunity for the person to help recruit and form disciples of Jesus Christ by coordinating, planning, and overseeing various ministerial activities within Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Normal Workdays/Hours:
This is a full-time salaried position with a necessary presence at church on Sunday Mornings (for the purpose of overseeing the parish OCIA program).
Position Characteristics:
This position requires significant interaction and coordination with clergy, staff members, and parishioners. It also requires sensitivity to the nature of information he/she has access to and must treat it with confidentiality.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evangelization – the person will have the mission of “discipling” people by bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ into the parish – by all means necessary – with the goal of inviting others to authentic conversion.
- Pastoral Care – the person will help to oversee and participate in outreach ministry to parishioners who are homebound and in nursing homes.
- Faith Formation – the person will identify and coordinate programs that equip disciples of Jesus Christ so they may be sent out into the world to spread God’s kingdom.
Qualifications and Skills:
The Director of Parish Discipleship must understand and believe in the teachings of the Church so that all pastoral instructions and liturgical practices at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish are in accordance with the teachings and liturgical norms of Roman Catholicism. Additional requirements are:
- A bachelor's degree in Theology or Religious Education OR 3-5 years’ experience in these or similar fields.
- An understanding of the dynamics of parish life and the relationship of a parish to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
- An ability to adapt to the needs of the Parish.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in the use of relevant technology.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with Pastor, to whom the Director reports.
This person must provide (or obtain prior to employment) clearances required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: PA Criminal Background Check and FBI Fingerprint Check. Also, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires “Safe Environment” Training Parts 1 and 2 (Mandated Reporting training).
