Director of Development
Catholic Human Services is currently seeking a full-time (35 hours/week), dedicated and mission-driven Director of Development to join our team. The Director of Development will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing agency-wide strategies to secure financial support through major gifts and annual giving campaigns. This individual will work to build and maintain relationships with donors, foster a culture of philanthropy, and support the overall mission and goals of CHS, consistent with the values of the Catholic Church.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to meet short- and long-term goals, including cost-per-dollar targets, in support of CHS’ programs and services.
- Annual Giving Campaign: Work with Marketing to develop successful annual giving campaigns for all internal clients to meet annual fund goals.
- Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Identify, research, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual and major gift donors, foundations, and corporate partners. Manage a portfolio of donors and prospective donors with leadership gift targets. Maintain an active schedule for solicitation visits.
- Capacity Analysis: Evaluate the financial ability of potential and existing donors to make significant contributions.
- Grant Writing & Reporting: Identify and assist in preparing grant applications and ensuring proper reporting and follow-up with funders.
- Planned Giving & Legacy Programs: Work with donors to establish and grow planned gifts, endowments, and other forms of legacy giving.
- Special Events: Plan and coordinate fundraising events, ensuring alignment with CHS’s mission, including galas, donor recognition events, and community outreach initiatives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Secretary for Catholic Human Services, Marketing, individual ministries of CHS, Archdiocesan Strategy Office, The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia, Catholic Charities Appeal, Board of Directors, and other departments to advance the organization’s development efforts and create cohesive strategies around fundraising and philanthropy.
- Communication & Outreach: Draft donor communication materials in collaboration with Marketing, including proposals, presentations, and annual reports, and promote CHS’s mission through various communication channels.
- Reporting & Analysis: Establish performances measures and monitor results. Provide regular readouts on fundraising progress, analyze results and adjust strategies as needed to meet or exceed goals.
- Vision: Provide vision, leadership and strategic direction to the fundraising efforts of Catholic Human Services in order to diversify and deepen donor support.
- Build and Grow Development Team: Longer-term plan for this role includes building, managing and growing a development team to oversee a volunteer coordinator, major gift officer and a data management administrator.
Position Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Communications, or Business Administration. Advanced degrees or certifications in fundraising (CFRE) are a plus.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in nonprofit development, with demonstrated success in managing and meeting major gifts, annual giving, and donor relations goals. Experience within Catholic organizations or faith-based nonprofits is highly desirable.

- Fluency with fundraising database systems. Knowledge of NXT/Raiser’s Edge and/or Salesforce, DonorPerfect, Boomerang) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Additional Information:
- This position may require some evening and weekend hours to attend events and meet with donors.
- Candidates must demonstrate a deep commitment to Catholic values and an understanding of the social teachings of the Catholic Church. Practicing Catholic preferred.
- Full-time work schedule of 35 hours per week which will include some evening and weekend meetings with potential donors and events.
