Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic college preparatory school for girls in grades 9-12 located outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks a Certified Athletic Trainer for the 2024-2025 school year who is committed to working in a dynamic, student-centered athletic department. 

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for coordination of athletic training services including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Merion Mercy Academy proudly offers 13 interscholastic sports across 3 seasons. This is a full-time (40 hours a week) 12-month position with benefits.

Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, the duties of the Certified Athletic Trainer include but are not limited to:

  • Attend and provide medical response coverage for home athletic events and practices.
  • Conduct taping and other pre-game/pre-practice preparation.
  • Communicate confidentially with student-athletes, parents, athletic directors, coaches and physicians regarding student-athletes' playing status and ability to return to competition or practice.
  • Provide evaluation, treatment, and functional rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records including injury notes, pre-participation forms.
  • Works with the Student Support Team (SST) to provide relevant information and support injured student-athletes.
  • Process all PIAA physicals and PIAA recertification forms.
  • Proctor all pre-season requirements including impact testing and concussion training.
  • Review, supervise and implement Merion Mercy’s heat and lightning policies, along with the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Educate athletes, coaching staff and parents on various aspects of injury prevention, first aid and strength and conditioning.
  • Provide appropriate medical referrals when necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize the athletic training room and modalities.
  • Serve as Game Manager for home contests when needed.
  • Assist in distribution and collection of uniforms.
  • Assist in coordination of transportation for athletic contests.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with rules, regulations, and bylaws of the PIAA, AACA (Athletic Association of Catholic Academies) and Merion Mercy Academy.
  • Foster the goals and standards of the Athletic Department in coordination with Merion Mercy Academy’s mission and vision.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and ordering of supplies annually.
  • Provide Athletic Training coverage at our Summer Sports Camps.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Some travel required for District and State playoffs.
  • Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the Director of Athletics and/or the Head of School. 

The position requirements are as follows:

  • Must be NATABOC certified in good standing; Maintain a PA licensure.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Graduation from a CAATE-approved Athletic Training Education Program.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of athletic training experience, preferably in a secondary school environment.
  • ARC Professional Rescuer or AHA BLS CPR certification required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a service and team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to function independently, attend to detail, work under pressure and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Possess superior character and integrity, demonstrate leadership skills, and be committed to the development of female student-athletes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals: student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, parents and alumnae.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

The selected candidate must pass all PA Department of Education background checks, and complete the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Safe Environment training.
